# Discord signals

> Trade a Discord channel's signals with your own bot, read by the TraderFrame bot.

Discord is a signal source you add to a bot, like TradingView, MetaTrader or Telegram. You point the bot at one channel, and every message in it that is unambiguously a signal for the bot's pair becomes a trade under the bot's own rules.

One thing is different from Telegram. Telegram is read through your own account. Discord forbids that for automation, so Discord is read by the **TraderFrame bot**, a Discord application you add to a server. Nothing is ever read through your account.

## Before you start

* A Discord account.
* A server where you can add bots, meaning you own it or have **Manage Server**. Your own server is fine, even a fresh one with a single channel.
* The bot's instrument set in **Position size**. A signal is only ever read as the bot's own pair.

## Set it up

1. Open the bot in the editor, press **+** under Signal sources, and pick **Discord**.
2. **Continue with Discord.** Discord asks to share who you are and which servers you are in. Approve, and you land back on the same bot with the panel open.
3. **Pick the server.** Servers that already have TraderFrame are listed first. Next to a server you manage that does not have it yet, use **Add TraderFrame to this server**, approve the two permissions (View Channels and Read Message History), then press **refresh**.
4. **Pick the channel.** Text and announcement channels the bot can read are listed. Below the picker, **What we read from it** shows the last messages with a verdict on each: Signal, or Ignored with the reason.
5. **How orders are placed.** Market or Limit, the same switch every source uses. See the rules below.
6. **Trade this channel's signals.** The bot follows the channel while it is running. One channel per bot; a second channel is a second bot.

## The signal group is on its own server

Most signal groups run their own Discord server, and you cannot add a bot there. Use Discord's own **Follow**:

1. In the group's server, open the announcement channel that carries the signals and press **Follow**. Only announcement channels can be followed. If the group posts in a normal text channel, ask them to mark it as an announcement channel.
2. Choose a channel in **your own** server as the destination. Discord copies every post there.
3. Add TraderFrame to your server and point the bot at that destination channel.

## Market and Limit

* **Market** takes the instrument and the direction from the message, nothing else. The entry is the market price when the message lands, and your bot's Exit rule closes the position.
* **Limit** takes the entry, the stop and the take profit from the message and places them on the order. All three must be in the message, or the signal is skipped. Because the order already carries a stop and a target, the Exit rule is set to Follow the signal.

Messages posted as embeds, the boxed cards many signal bots use, are read the same as plain text.

## What is never traded

* Any instrument other than the bot's pair.
* Anything older than five minutes when it is read, so a reconnect never replays history.
* Anything the parser cannot read as a clear signal. The preview in the panel and the bot's **Signals** tab both show the reason.

## Disconnecting

**Disconnect** in the panel revokes what you approved at Discord and forgets the link. Bots keep their channel setting but stop receiving until you connect again. Removing TraderFrame from a server in Discord has the same effect for that server's channels.

## If something refuses

* **"Discord is not set up on this server yet."** The platform has no Discord application configured. Nothing to do on your side.
* **"No servers found on this Discord account."** Discord returned no servers for the account you approved. Join or create one, then press Disconnect and connect again.
* **"TraderFrame is not in that server yet."** Use Add TraderFrame to this server, or ask whoever manages it.
* **"TraderFrame cannot read that channel."** The bot is in the server but the channel hides it. Give the TraderFrame role View Channel and Read Message History on that channel.
* **Nothing appears in Signals after a post.** Check the bot is running, the channel is the one you picked, and the message names the bot's pair. The bot reads every eight seconds, so allow a moment.
